The position of quantity surveyor
The quantity surveyor works both with the architect and in the field. He doubles his skills as an economist with an in-depth technical knowledge of the construction world. He is a key man in setting up a site. Indeed, it is he who determines the quantity and the cost of the material necessary for the completion of the site.

Your missions
- Evaluate the cost of the site: first, he works with the architect. Using the construction plans, he makes an initial assessment of the quantity of materials needed to complete the site. He is also required to verify this information on site. His technical skills will enable him to adapt the materials used to the typology of the land. It will also determine the manpower required. Using the estimates obtained, he will write the specifications and give his estimated budget.
- Monitor the site: he may be responsible for monitoring the progress of the site. In this case, he will plan the different stages of the construction. He will also have to resolve problems with delays in the schedule, due to bad weather or a delay in delivery from a supplier. He must also ensure that the planned costs are respected.
- Prospect: depending on the size of his business and the profile of his position, he may sometimes be required to respond to calls for tenders and prospect for new clients.
The skills required
To exercise this profession, it is necessary to have both economic and technical skills. A quantity surveyor must be as precise as possible in his estimate. His technical knowledge must be irreproachable. He must be perfectly familiar with the new materials. He must therefore keep abreast of news in his sector. He is called upon to work in collaboration with, among others, the architect, clients and workers. He must therefore have a good sense of contact to manage these interactions as well as possible and obtain valuable information. He must be methodical, organized and conscientious in order to meet the deadlines set for the execution of the site.
